A weekend adventure in Outdoor Lazer Tag!!!

Ok so I feel that I am pretty much up for anything. Well I wasn't prepared for this. My husband and son had gone out several weeks ago, on a Saturday, and played outdoor lazer tag. Well, I took this time to shop and spend time with my best friend and daughter. I wasn't so lucky this past weekend.

We got my SIL to watch Gabby, and basically swapped her for my nephew and made a trip to Walmart for camo that I have been assured would be the basic trend once there. I wasn't really believing this at this point. Well, all cammoed up, we arrive at a church with a huge parking lot and they say we are here. At this point, I am completely confused!!! What they were indicating was the wooded patch behind that particular church. Now, I know I am in trouble. Once everyone arrived, it was game on. I have figured out that this is the only legal means of really shooting your child with a gun...Its pretty fun actually. Don't worry though, he got plenty of shots in too. We played 4 games, about 20mins long and had a ball. This allows your inner child to come you, not to mention, it also lets you know exactly how old and out of shape you really are. We were split into 2 teams kids and instructer against adults. We lost  3to1. Yeah, we sucked!!! Hey! its harder than you think, trust me. We had revines, creeks, woods, hills, play and you will see. I thought I would attach a few fashion shots for all to see.laser_tag_001 Aren't we a sight????

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all. I hope your day will be wonderful. Mine got off to a rather random start as when I got up this morning, this is what I saw

DSC_0566 Beautiful, huh. Yeah, I don't remember the las time we had snow on Valentine's but, what the heck! What was funny is that yesterday I was laughing at a blog that I was reading about the snow and ice that the person was tired of. Now look at it. What got me even more was that when I got to work today, there was nothing on the ground, not a speck, drop, flake, nothing. What is up with that??

Anyway, Have a Wonderful Valentine's and eat as much chocolate as you can stand!!

Oh, Gabby wanted her picture taken and put in here, so I thought I would add her too. Have a great day!!!

Another lovely weekend

You can always tell when spring fever hits my house, because I start finding reasons to go outside, even if it is to drink my morning coffee on the weekends. (A sure sign that I am no longer a wild, single person) But I also have figured out that, this is the time that my husband and I start new projects in the house. First couple of years it was little things, painting bedrooms, then we progressed to cutting trees down in the yard that were dying or in the way. Then we took it yet another step further and ripped up the kitchen floor and redoing that. Now, we have resorted to moving the counter that was once an island back to its original spot, sounds pretty easy, huh??

Remember, this is my family and we never do anything easy. Well, I wanted it put back where it was but wanted a different top, and since we hd to change it anyway, why not make it interesting. So, I have convinced him that instead of replacing all of the counters, we would do a tiled top on the island. Here's the kicker, we started this project Sunday, as usual, and its not done yet. Guess who is impatient...ME! I want it yesterday and unfortunately, I'm having to take seven of the 15 tiles back because they are damaged. This is not going according to plan, Nothing ever does, so why should it start now??? I will keep you posted on this project. FYI...we still haven't finished the laundry room either.

Oh, you know your beautiful little babies, and all of their cute moments that you wish you had a camera for??? Well, my wonderful 2 year old, in her infinate wisdom, made me have one of those days on Saturday. I was outside, as it was a pretty nice day, and I was cleaning out my flower bed near my fish pond. (Don't worry, the fish are safely inside out of the cold, however, we do know that you can freeze goldfish and they really do come back to life) But, after telling her 3, maybe 4 dozen times that she needed to stop walking on the rocks, I just gave up. But it was a moment too soon. No sooner did I turn back around to collect my stuff and get out of the bed, she takes a flying leap right into the pond. As she is screaming, and I, being the great mother I am, am about to lose it cause I am laughing so hard, my hubby comes running around the truck to see what happened. All I can do is laugh and stripe to nothing and run her inside. All in all, she is fine and laughed later about it.

What is so funny, was that later that afternoon, I got pics of her around yet another pond/fountain at a mall. Told you I was a great mom.

NURSEMAID'S WHAT????

Ok, so I haven't written in a while, at least not since the "Blizzard" we had, and for that I do apologize. But over this brief period, I have found out somethings. It seems that just because I thought I was brave enough to start over again with my daughter, doesn't mean I actually am.  My children are pretty spaced out in ages, as you could probably tell by the photos. I have a wonderful step daughter, Niki, who is 22, a great 14 year old son, Josh (the best big brother a girl could wish for) and then we have Gabby, who is 2 1/2. And I have to say that if you had asked 5 years ago,if  I would have more children, I would have looked at you and asked if you were crazy. But I think God knew what he was doing when he sent that little beauty to me and I have revelled in her ever since. So, with that said, you could only expect high panic when something happens to her.

Since she has been born, I have had more doctors visits than I thought possible for a normal healthy child, ear infections, colds, tubes in her ears and the normal check ups. So, why with that track record, why would I expect to get out of that phase so easily. For those of us who are medically stupid, and didnt know any better, dont swing your child around by their arms, if they are under the ripe old age of 5. This will cause something called Nursemaid's elbow, now ask me how I know this......We have had this happen, as recent as this weekend. So, I have spent the last couple of days in and out of doctors offices. It happened Saturday evening, and my son was picking on Gabby, when she got mad and dropped to the ground. Me, completely oblivious of this, and holding her hand, keeps walking. Yeah, not a good outcome. She starts screaming, holding her arm and not wanting anyone to touch it. We went to Urgent Care on Sunday, only to find out that having one doctor for the entire family, really isnt a good thing (ironically, there was a sign stating just that on the way out of the office) Anyway, I headed out Monday morning to the Peds office and 3 hours later, still no luck. We are told to watch her and if nothing changes, bring her back and we would go to the Orthopedist. Well,  on Wednesday that was where we ended up. Thank goodness it was for good news.

Now for those that dont know what this is, its kind of like a hyperextention of the elbow and your child will refuse to move their arm, pick anything up and will favor it almost to the point that its like a dead limb. Now, what most dr's fail to tell you is that if this happens once, it will easily happen again. (They never said that it would be because of a piggy back ride though.) You wouldn't know it, but it can happen as easily as swinging your child around in circles by their arms,  pulling arms through a jacket, lifting a child by one arm, a child pulling away from you, while you hold their hand. So, please, be very mindful of how you pick up your child, and how you play with them. Good news is, that in most cases it is easily fixed and can be done at the doctors office with a few quick bends of the elbow, and after a brief cry, your child is back to normal.

All in all, Gabby is fine, has regained full use of her arm and all is right in the world again! I am quickly finding out that I had it pretty easy with my son, who suffered from no more than 1 bout with strep that I gave him when he was 4. I think someone knew that I couldn't have handled that much back then and gave me this beautiful gift of a little girl to remember how precious life is and how stupid an irrate mother can be. My husband always laughs at me when something happens to her, because I do go crazy. And its hard for him to understand how this crazy, mess of a woman could be a cop for 6 years, all big and tough. Only to find out that all it would take is the tears of a 2 year old, and I am brought to my knees.

Well it did it, and now everything is back to normal

Well, we can finally say that it snowed. At least in Orange County, NC it did. It started on Saturday around 2 and didnt stop until after midnight. It was beautiful! We all got a chance to play in it and do the typical snowball fight and snowman. It wasnt until later that we realized that we had left out the snow angels. All in all, it was great, and Gabby had a blast. This was the first real snow for her and once she figured out that she could eat the stuff, all she wanted was snow. I had to put some in a cup just to get her in the house. I never realized that 2 yr olds could be so stubborn. As you will also see, we spent the day prior to the snowing playing in the yard and riding Josh's dirt bike. Niki, my oldest, finally drove it, and is convinced that she doesnt need a man, just a job and she can have her own bike. (she is in her last year of nursing school) Even Gabby got on it and loved it. You couldn't get her off of the thing. I had to laugh though, she did not smile the entire time she was on it, but try and get her off and she would scream. I don't get it, she is definately her daddy's girl, next he will want her to ride on the Harley with him. It always starts out small and then it blows up on you.

Anyway, I got a rude awakening on Monday. There may have been snow at my house, but when I started listening to the news, (fingers crossed that the roads were bad and impassible) I quickly learned that all of the snow in Wake Co was gone. So, miserably I had to get ready and go in, fussing the whole way. I guess I should be happy, but I would have killed for a day at home. Well, so much for wishful thinking, huh?? I think North Carolina is the only state that I can go outside and freeze to death one day and the very next day wish that I had opted for something other than the sweater I'm wearing.

Jim Paynewrote:
Hey.  Saw your post on a friends.  Thought I would stop by.  I have a motorcycle as well.  I read your post about the bike event.  Some days are great rides and some days are just good rides.  Still, riding the bike and getting a "pink one" has to be better than sitting at home watching it rain outside.

Nice blog.
